'Bang' is 'Big' draw for BBC Four

A documentary about a new machine aiming to recreate The Big Bang was a ratings hit for BBC Four on Thursday night. The Big Bang Machine, charting an experiment that will re-create conditions a billionth of a second after the start of the universe, drew a sizeable 544,000 (2.9%) in the 9pm hour. The figures made the programme the third most-watched multichannel show of the day, behind only usual ratings juggernauts EastEnders and Hollyoaks. The controversial experiment is due to take place this Wednesday (September 10). BBC Four also had success with Lost Horizons: The Big Bang, a documentary drawing from BBC archives of Big Bang coverage from the last 50 years. It pulled in 400,000 (2.2%) in the 8pm hour, helping boost BBC Four's average Wednesday share from 0.6% to 0.9%. The day's most-watched show overall was EastEnders, with 7.48m (37.6%) (more)

Vic Reeves unsure over plastic surgery

Script worries cause '24' filming break

'Big Brother' finale is lowest rated yet

Last night's Big Brother finale was the least watched to date, according to early ratings figures. The main results show, which saw Rachel Rice crowned the surprise winner, drew an average of 4.71m (23%) for Channel 4 in the 10pm hour. While still huge numbers for the channel, the ratings are the lowest for a Bb finale in its nine series history. Last year's August 31 finale drew 5.3m (29%), which was also a record low at the time and a fall from the 7.5m who watched the 2006 finale. The best-rated Bb finale was the 2002 edition, won by Kate Lawler, with 9.4m. The victory of transexual contestant Nadia Almeida in 2004 also drew huge numbers, with an average audience of 8.3m. BBC accused of plot to axe 'Blue Peter'
